Welcome to Neverbird Antiques!
We are Bill and Joyce Subjack. After many years of collecting and after retiring from industry and teaching, we began Neverbird Antiques in 2000 because of our life-long love of antiques and history along with our desire to keep busy.
We handle 18th and early 19th century needlework, oil and watercolor folk art paintings, as well as historical books and documents, and interesting miscellaneous small items.
Many people ask us where the name Neverbird Antiques came from. The Never bird is a character in the original J.M. Barrie book Peter and Wendy, published in 1911 (Charles Scribner's Sons, NY). The Never bird has her own chapter (IX) in which she rescues Peter Pan from drowning. We adopted the Never bird for our logo because one of our daughters was in a stage production of Peter and Wendy. The Disney version of Peter Pan did not use the Never bird, so she is not widely known today.
The bird logo came from an 18th c. pocket made by Mercy Waterman, Newport, Rhode Island.
We are currently in the process of writing a book about needlework samplers from all over America entitled Sampling America. The release of the book is intended to be for late 2007.
