Justus Englehardt Kuhn (active 1708-1717)

Oil on canvas portrait of a young girl. JEK was a German immigrant who settled and worked in Annapolis, MD. Patronized by powerful families - Carrolls, Diggeses, and Darnalls - this young girl was likely from one of those families, perhaps one of the Carroll children. The Maryland Historical Society owns two identified Kuhn pieces of Darnell children. The sight size of this example is 39" x 29"; 45" x 35 1/2" with frame. Frame is later, circa 1800.

Stunning oil on canvas portrait of a young girl circa 1730.   Painter is unidentified but the work is in the style of John Smibert  (1688-1751).    The portrait has a New England origin.  Sight size is 48" x 35".  Early, possibly original frame.  Painting has been relined; some minor inpainting.

Oil on canvas portrait of three sisters holding embroidered handkerchiefs/napkins, painted c. 1850.  Artist is anonymous.  Ohio origin. Sight size measures 43 1/2" x 35 1/2". Laid on board; trivial amount of inpainting.

Attractive and boldy colored oil on bed ticking portrait of a young child wearing a deep pink dress and a coral necklace, holding a bowl of fruit.  Attributed to Milton Hopkins, c. 1838.
